A three dimensional boundary element method (3D BEM) is developed for computing added wave resistance. The hydrodynamic boundary value problem is solved using the frequency-domain zero speed Green function with forward speed correction, and a near field approach is followed to compute the added wave resistance. A constant panel BEM is utilized to determine the velocity potential and its spatial derivatives on the mean underwater ship hull surface. Numerical computations are conducted for a variety of Wigley hull forms, the S175 and KCS container hulls and the KVLCC2 tanker in head waves for different forward speeds. Computed added wave resistances are compared with available experimental data and other numerical results. A detailed discussion on computed results of added wave resistance is presented.
