This paper reports on development of a 3D Numerical wave tank for simulating large amplitude forward speed ship motions in realistic seaways. The developed method is based on simplified variant of mixed-Eulerian-Lagrangian scheme in time domain. A constant panel boundary element method is used to determine the flow variables on the boundaries by solving the relevant boundary integral equations. A higher order time marching scheme is used to time integrate the motion equations and free surface boundary conditions for the numerical solution to progress in time. Detail discussion on the various numerical instabilities encountered in this forward speed problem compared to the zero speed case is presented. Numerical computations are carried out for standard hull geometries for different forward speeds and headings. Computed motion RAOs are validated with available literature results.
